Our History
The Center for Excellence in Pain Research was established to bridge the critical gap between groundbreaking scientific inquiry and transformative clinical care for individuals living with chronic pain.
Founded under the leadership of Dr. Rany Abdallah—a highly accomplished pain management specialist holding an MD, PhD, and MBA, with dual board certification in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology—the Center builds upon decades of dedicated scientific and clinical excellence. Dr. Abdallah’s research trajectory began during his time as a medical student and has continued through his extensive work in both basic science and clinical trials. As a former academic scholar, an active Board of Directors member for the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), and a practitioner at APICO Pain Management, Dr. Abdallah has consistently contributed to shaping the field, including leading initiatives to publish evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
Recognizing that millions of patients worldwide continue to suffer from unaddressed or undertreated chronic pain conditions, the Center for Excellence in Pain Research was launched to advance the frontier of pain medicine.
Today, our mission remains clear: to conduct high-impact basic science and clinical research that targets existing gaps in pain science, accelerates the development of novel therapies, and delivers meaningful, lasting relief to the patients who need it most.
