Dr. Rany Abdallah, MD, PhD, MBA, is a nationally recognized pain management specialist, physician-scientist, and leader in interventional pain medicine. Dual board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Dr. Abdallah brings an extraordinary breadth of expertise to his role leading the Center for Excellence in Pain Research and as President of APICO Pain Management™. His career is defined by a commitment to advancing the field of pain medicine through rigorous research, academic leadership, and compassionate, patient-centered care.
Dr. Abdallah’s clinical and scientific foundation was built at top-tier institutions across the country. He earned both his MD and PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina before completing his Anesthesia residency at Rush University in Chicago. He went on to pursue a specialized fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, where he served as Chief Fellow. Following his training, Dr. Abdallah held key academic appointments, serving on the faculty at Temple University Health and as Chief of the Interventional Pain Division at the University of Vermont Health before transitioning into private practice.
In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Abdallah remains deeply engaged in shaping the future of pain medicine on a national level. He serves on the Board of Directors for the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), alongside holding various academic roles and leadership positions in professional societies. Dr. Abdallah has been actively involved in clinical and basic science research since medical school, consistently contributing to the scientific literature and participating in the publication of clinical practice guidelines that set the standard for patient care.
Clinically, Dr. Abdallah specializes in treating a wide spectrum of acute and chronic conditions, including severe back and neck pain, headaches, cancer pain, chronic post-surgical pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), fibromyalgia, and industrial or accidental injuries. He utilizes a multimodal treatment approach that integrates interventional procedures, tailored pharmacotherapy, physical therapy, chiropractic care, and psychotherapy. His interventional expertise ranges from foundational spine injections to state-of-the-art therapies and advanced implantable devices, driving his mission to bring meaningful, long-term relief to patients with complex pain conditions.
